Let me tell y'alll this old southern gal in Southwest Louisiana was delighted to wake up to 4 inches of snow yesterday! Folks, that is a very rare occurrence in this neck of the woods and it is beautiful! We never got above 30 yesterday so it was beautiful again this morning, but supposed to get into the 50s today so most of it will melt! I know for all of you that have harsh winters up north it's a pain, but just made this old girl happy to experience the 4th season (a very cold and white winter day)! BLESSED !!

We are in Pflugerville, TX today, for a few days to visit grand daughter. See ice on the side of the road and on roof of homes. No snow tho.

About 8 inches this morning and the clowns at the RV park did not plow. One of the ladies that is a neighbor was none too happy about that. She got stuck in her trailer when we had ice a few weeks ago. Unfortunately for her she has front wheel drive. Useless when it is slippery on an uphill. No spin no go. Spin a front wheel drive and you just go all over the place because you lose your steering. Same thing with traction control on a hill. You come to nice slow stop, never to get any farther.

Finally saw our cow moose day before yesterday with her calf. She usually comes thru about Thanksgiving but I guess she's been waiting for winter to arrive. When she shows up to eat I'll try and get some pics. For you folks going to Texas Rally the funny noise coming from my tires are metal studs not a flat tire. Our son called from Fort Hood, about 100 miles north of Fredericksburg, nite before last and said it was snowing there. What a weird year. It was low 40's in Alaska today.Dave

My #2 son stationed at Ft Hood. Small world, Dave. 1st as 4th Infantry, with 1st hitch in Iraq. Next he was with 1st Calv and 2nd hitch in Iraq. Got out and did UTI in Phoenix, diesel mechanic. Now working Ryder trucking, Austin, TX, diesel mechanic.

Sue, (pause), I don't know what to tell you about the snow. Yes, in small amounts it is beautiful. In rare, small amounts it can be downright romantic. Here at home, well, we've lost sight of the Coleman hardtop camper. December was the coldest in 80 years and the second coldest in 110 years. Almost every day we were blessed with a "high" of between -25 and -30C.
We are SO very much looking forward to taking off in early May for Indiana, then off to Oregon (or as you Americans pronounce it, Origun) working our way down to NM for our reward for suffering through a winter that makes Siberia look like an attractive alternative.
Today, it is -21C with winds gusting to 50mph. Highways shut down in blizzard conditions.

Many would ask, "Why in the h*ll do we live here?" The answer is health care, which incidentally DOES cover frostbite!

We are having a ground blizzard for the next 24 hours. 50 + mph winds and -50 below wind chills. 52 days till spring!

Oh My Goodness! Not sure this old southern gal could hang in that kind of weather! I did live in Alton IL 40 + years ago and the winters there were wonderful in that we got snow and yes, very cold -19 (riding around with the top down on my Vette convertible). Up there - very dry cold......down here, very wet cold, so makes a huge difference! I am from the south and I can stand the heat or the humidity, but NOT together! Never have acclimated to that! Personally - perfect to me would be low 70s and mid 50s - now THAT would make this old gal happy happy happy! Don't see that happening in my lifetime! The weather this year has really been unusual to say the least! Here - in August when it is 106 with heat index of 118 trust me, I would LOVE to be where it's cooler! You can always put more clothes on, but you just can't walk around naked everywhere! Hopefully it will level out soon for everyone! Guess what- we have Round 2 of Wintery Mix predicted for Tuesday - unbelievable!

Last week -7 and no snow. Today 21 and supposed to get 6-8 inches by tomorrow afternoon. Thursday-Friday 40's and rain. Go figure.Dave

My many years of experience have convinced me that the only good snow is only found on postcards and Christmas cards. I know the farmers need it for spring moisture to insure successful planting, but I've shoveled too much of the stuff to have any affection for it.

this is why my kids are missing snow, and i am not so much!!!
i remember when they were real little, and wanting to go play in the snow so bad, so we would spend what seemed like an eternity getting all bundled up, go outside to play. and within minutes someone has lost a mitten, or fell face first in the snow, and we all had to go back in, then hang all the snow clothes to dry. At least there was hot chocolate at the end, mine was usually spiked!! lol
fond memories i guess, but i do not miss snow, at least not the cold that must accompany it!!

It has not stopped raining here all day today with a high of 42 and now down to 36............miserable cold rain..........yep, I'd much rather it be snow! Just sayin' ! That's a treat we rarely see in SW LA but it has snowed 3 times within 10 days this year..........AWESOME!!!!!

Oh wow Doc! Think all of the NE and Northern part of the country is buried..........I LOVE snow, but I do remember the problems that come with it when I lived in Illinois 40+ years ago! We got up to 68 today and supposed to be in the mid 70s most of next week! Oak trees are budding and my purple magnolia is about to bust wide open............kinda ready for Spring to get sprung!
