Hi All,
I have a 2015 Open Range Light 3150BH. I have two slide outs that are not working. The bedroom slide out quit working last year and now the bunk house slide out is doing the same thing. They are chain driven and just make grinding noises when trying to slide in or out. We’ve resorted to pushing them while someone holds the slide in/out button. From reading posts here and a little investigation I’m assuming I need to replace the gear boxes. Is this a big job? Does anyone know the best way to replace them? Any tips or best practices?

Thank you

Many here have replaced gear boxes themselves.
I haven't had too yet.

I know there are some youtube videos and some old post on this site which can help you.

It can feel intimidating, and we applied a combo of the lessons learned from this forum and some of the videos. I have included the link of one we reviewed below, this was posted by a forum member some time back. We found that the "scary" part was mostly the thought of it, the actual change-out moved along well and if you do not have cable adjustments needed as well (we did) it can be a pretty quick project when you have all the needed tools and access.

I have replaced 3 gear boxes in the slides on my trailer. The hardest parts was taking away the molding around the opening to get to the gear boxes. The actual trade out was not that hard, take your time and carefully look at and readjust the cables as necessary.
Hope this helps.

You are exactly right!
FWIW, I have never had to replace any cables the first 8 years we owned this thing. Now I've replace 3 of them since last September. Relatively easy if you can work around the wood framing.
Hint: The Chinese handcuff that comes with the cable is a waste of time and doesn't work.

Don't buy the cheap knock off from Amazon, get the actual BAL one from Amazon. Go ahead, ask me how I know. :ROFLMAO:
