We are tired of our truck gps trying to take us down country backroads. We are looking at RV specific GPS units and can't decide which reviews to believe. Which brand and model do you use and are you happy with it?
We use a Garmin deezul for 18 wheelers, it allows us to input weight, height, and width. It's not perfect but does a very good job and has free lifetime updates. Available at Amazon or most truck stops. It has helped
in small towns and railroad bridge clearances.
I use a Garmin RV 780 GPS Navigator with Traffic. In truck mode you can enter the measurements for your rig and select low bridge notifications. Like any GPS it is not perfect and sometimes it does not know its left from its right. For the most part the unit is totally reliable, stay off of the country roads and smaller state routes and you should not have trouble.
1 more vote for the Garmin RV760 LTM. I've been using it for 5+ years. The map updates can be kind of slow in coming. It does usually keep us out of a bind but some of the routes can be squirrely. For our trip to Splashway one of the suggested routes took us 10 miles out of the way to avoid a two block detour in Luling because it showed the main RR crossing was under construction. It was right about the closed crossing, but a bit overly cautious about rerouting. Better safe than sorry?
I now have the Garmin RV 770 LTM (life time maps).
I had a Magellan RV GPS and liked it but it died and I was not able to replace it before we headed to Alaska in 2019.
The 770 is for an RV where you can input specs for your rig.
Unlike the GPS for big trucks the 770 has information about campgrounds etc. for the RVer.
The one thing the Magellan had was a setting for Most use of Freeways, the Garmin only has Fastest Time or Shortest Distance.
On the flip side the most use of freeways can take you a long way out of the way to a destination.
All GPS units need to be updated often.
